Open Positions
Territory Sales Manager
The core mission of the territory manager for SpringSource is to grow revenue and bookings, where the bookings will come primarily from opening new accounts in the assigned territory. SpringSource provides an open source framework to the market for Java developers. The bookings will consist customers paying for yearly subscriptions to the commercial version of our products and for training and consulting. The goal of a territory manager is to achieve their revenue objectives in a transactional environment which means maintaining a large pipeline and driving a high volume of deals across many customers. The territory manager will be measured on monthly, quarterly and yearly bookings attainment.
Compensation: Negotiable
Commission Plan: Uncapped plan with unlimited earnings potential
Key Activities:
- Exceed monthly, quarterly and annual bookings target for subscriptions and services
- Achieve a balance of 60% bookings from subscriptions and 40% bookings from training/consulting
- Sell 3-4 subscription deals/month and 5-6 training/consulting deals/month
- Maintain a very high level of activity o 50+ calls per day o 8-10 online meetings per week o One week of 8-10 in-person meetings per month with prospects o Pipeline to Quota ratio of 5:1
- Consistently rank in the top 20% of performers across company’s sales force
The successful candidate will:
- Have a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in the IT Software field.
- Minimum of 5 years external sales experience. Ideally selling software infrastructure solutions.
- Strong sales track record within the enterprise markets selling complex software solutions. Open source experience would be an advantage
- Experience of working in an early stage start up would be an advantage. Must be a self starter with very high energy.
- Will demonstrate excellent presentation skills (written and verbal) and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Will have a mature and sensible approach to long-term relationship development with customers.
- Someone with energy and passion that will project into the channel and the market on behalf of Spring Source and also inspire.
- Will be expected to represent Spring Source in tradeshows, the press and conferences.

Technical Support Engineer
Role
SpringSource, Inc. is seeking a highly self motivated Technical Support Engineer to provide technical support services for SpringSource Commercial products. As part of the Global 24x7 Technical Support Team, the Technical Support Engineer will assist our customers to analyze, diagnose, replicate and troubleshoot the reported issues to resolution. This individual will also be working with engineering, quality assurance and sales organization in the product and customer service delivery improvement process.
Responsibilities:
- Provide level 2 through level 3 technical assistance in analyzing, diagnosing, replicating and troubleshooting customers reported issues to resolution on Spring and OpenSource Apache technologies
- Manage assigned support incidents and maintain up-to-date status in the Support Console
- Escalate unresolved issues that require more in-depth knowledge in a timely manner
- Create reproducible test cases, when necessary, for customer reported issues
- Report and submit product defects in the bug tracking system
- Create new knowledgebase articles and keep them up-to-date
- Provide after business hour support on a rotation basis
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field of studies
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
- 3 + years industry experience in technical support or related disciplines
- 1 + years of industry experience in Java development
- Intermediate level of knowledge in Spring technologies
- Familiarity with Hibernate, Eclipse and Maven is preferred, but not required
- Familiarity with Apache HTTPD and Tomcat administration and configuration
- Familiarity with basic system and network administration on UNIX and Windows is preferred
- Familiarity with kernel tuning, AXIS2, ActiveMQ, and Geronimo is a bonus
Pre-Sales Consultant - Northeast, Central East or Midwest
Role
Pre-sales Consultants work closely with the SpringSource sales team and perform a mix of duties including product demonstrations (remote or onsite), proofs of concept, short duration consulting, and creation of white papers and other artifacts.
This role typically requires significant travel to varied locations, although the Consultant's home base in certain major markets generally allows the possibility of significantly reduced travel.
When not involved in pre-sale activities, Consultants may take part in support activities, take on internal projects, or take part in self,-improvement and learning activities.
Requirements:
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, particularly as this is a very customer-facing role
- Highly proficient in Java, and have significant experience with Java SE and Java EE
- A strong degree of self motivation
- Experience with the Spring Framework is a strong asset
- Training experience is not a necessity, but is useful
This is a full time position in our North American division, with location or relocation to the Northeast, Central East or Midwest, such such as New York, Washington, Chicago, etc., required. Applicants must be resident in the USA and already be eligible to work in the USA.
Tomcat Senior Consultant
Consultants and Senior Consultants typically perform short duration consulting, training and mentoring development teams for SpringSource clients. The exact mix of training and consulting is dependent on a number of factors including operational requirements, together with the Consultant's experience, location and proven ability to deliver.
Over time, it would be expected that the Consultant would provide Consulting Services almost exclusively, but with the high demand for all types of SpringSource Services, we are looking for individuals who have the skills and flexibility to be able to provide all of our service offerings, i.e. consulting, training and mentoring. In fact in many situations, the consulting service delivered will actually be a customized on-site training engagement.
This role typically requires significant travel to varied locations, although the Consultant's home base in certain major markets generally allows the possibility of significantly reduced travel.
When not performing billable client work, Consultants will take part in various activities. They are aligned with a Spring product development team. Their billable work will apply the technologies they are aligned with as far as possible, and when they’re not consulting they’ll be directly contributing to product development, both on the Spring product and the associated training product. In addition they will take part in self-improvement and learning activities.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Highly proficient in Java, and have significant experience with Java SE and Java EE
